A Double On The July Course

Mon 31 July 2017

Newmarket proved the place to be on Saturday where Richard managed to bag a double. The day started well when MODEL managed to run a very close second in the Listed Prix Six Perfections in Deauville. The daughter of Mastercraftsman was having just her second start on the track having won well on debut at Doncaster. She travelled well and didn’t manage to get much room in the closing two furlongs. Once she did get out she managed to stay out and only got beaten a short neck. ‘She is a lovely filly and that was a game effort. She would have been very close to winning if she had got out earlier on. She has run very well and looked to have no problem with the step up in class. I will give her a few weeks before making any plans on where she heads next.’

The first race at Newmarket was the Novice Stakes for two year olds. ANNA NERIUM was running for the third time in her life having run a good third on the same course over six furlongs. The step up to seven furlongs was always going to suit and she stayed on strongly in the closing stages. ‘She missed the break by a couple of lengths and ended up travelling a touch keen in running. Tom asked her to quicken and she showed an impressive turn of foot beating the odds on shot. She is a nice filly and should be very competitive up in grade.’

PILLAR OF SOCIETY was our second winner, with Tom Marquand riding a double for the yard. He managed to stretch the field and was about fifteen lengths clear at half way. He stayed on gamely up to the line. ‘Although he looked like he would get caught I think he idled in front and did pick up again when they came to him. He has been running well all year and deserved to get another win under his belt for Julie Wood.’

Today’s action comes from Windsor and Wolverhampton. GHEPARDO makes her reappearance after a long time off and if she shows what she did first up she should be right there. At Windsor, FAST AND HOT runs again on ground he loves with a six pound penalty, unfortunately Rossa had a fall on Saturday and misses the ride, so Tina Smith steps in. AL BARG is having his second run having run a close second on debut. He is a son of Acclamation so it was be a question mark as to whether he handles the track.
