A STELLAR WEEKEND

Tue 28 August 2018

Richard had a very successful weekend with six winners over the three days including two Listed events and a Group 3. A winning debutant added to the list for Michael Pescod with FLOATING ARTIST at Goodwood on Friday evening. The son of Nathaniel was very green in running but when he finally got the hang of things he won impressively in the end. ‘He has always been a very nice colt and watching the race I thought he was going to run well in the first half of the field. Everything suddenly clicked and he took off up to the line winning with a bit in hand. He will improve plenty for the experience and is a proper horse for next year. We haven’t got any plans yet but we will let him get over that run first.’

The second winner of the evening came when KUWAIT CURRENCY forged clear under Tom Marquand in the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury. He was settled in behind the leaders and when the gap opened he pushed through impressively to win with plenty in hand. ‘He ran no sort of race first time but made up for that last time at Lingfield. He has improved since that effort and I was very taken with how he went about his victory today. He was game to go through the gap and he could be a lovely colt for next year. He has a few major entries this year including the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket.’
The final winner of the evening came with RED STARLIGHT in the Fillies Handicap for Cheveley Park at Chelmsford. She was never far from the pace and picked up nicely to get her head in front close to home. ‘She never ran much of a race last time and I am just glad she could get her head back in front today. She is a filly that could get some black type at some stage.’

Saturday was a big day for the yard with the second winner of the week at York coming in the shape of WELL DONE FOX. He won the Listed Roses Stakes under Jim Crowley. The King Power owned colt was having his seventh start having already struck at Listed level before and was tenacious in holding off all challengers. ‘He was very tough today and is a very hardy colt. He takes his racing really well and seems to keep on improving. He loves these conditions and he should be able to take the leap into Group company easily.’

The second winner on the day came with RUM RUNNER at Newmarket. Dropping back in class and trip he was sent to the front and never looked like getting caught all the way up to the line. ‘He loves being allowed to bowl along and keeps finding when asked to quicken. He is a fun horse to have and when he is in this vain of form he should be able to pick up another.’

The final winner of the weekend came on Sunday with ANNA NERIUM in the Group 3 Supreme Stakes at Goodwood. The conditions were diabolical but she seems to relish them. She was very tough battling off all challengers. She was taking on the older boys and did so impressively. ‘I love this filly as she tries so hard and we have been waiting for these conditions all year. She did that really nicely and we will aim her at a few Group 1’s now and hope we get a bit of luck with the weather.’

Today's action comes from Epsom with two runners in the Nursery. PIRATE and CRACKING SPEED both their chances.
