Ashwaq Dominates At Kempton

Tue 21 March 2017

There was another winner yesterday at Kempton ridden by Tom Marquand, in the shape of ASHWAQ. The three year old daughter of Sepoy was having her third run in her life, having run second and third on her first two outings. She didn’t have to improve much to beat the field yesterday, in what was an average Maiden for its class. ‘She won in a likeable way but didn’t have to exert herself too much. She probably idled in front and may have gone on again when headed. I would imagine she wouldn’t get too higher mark on that evidence, so the handicap route will be the next option for her.’

There was a promising debut made by WESTERN SAFARI, who is a half-brother to our very own OH THIS IS US. She ran a nice third and looked promising. ‘I couldn’t have been happier with her run, as she looked to stay on well up to the line. She will appreciate a step up in trip and she should have no problem with breaking her maiden on her next couple of starts.’

No runners today, but the team are heading up to Newcastle for three runners tomorrow. TOMILY leads the bunch in the valuable three year old handicap sprint. ‘He won well last time and the plan is to head to the Sprint on Good Friday at Lingfield. He does have to hold top weight tomorrow which may be too much, but his form holds up strongly against these.’ WEFAIT a son of Harbour Watch is having his third run over a mile and a quarter. He looks like the step up in trip will suit. ‘He ran a nice third in a Maiden at Sandown last year but all he looks to do is gallop. So this stiffer test should suit and I would hope he could be right there.’ The final runner is ENDEAVOUR who has been disappointing, having shown plenty of promise on his first run. He drops back in grade considerably here and this would be his best chance of running a bold race.
