Chester May Meeting: Day One

Wed 10 May 2017

The first day of Chester May meeting has arrived and the season has been well and truly underway for a little while now. The Classic generation are now heading towards their next target in the Investec Derby and Oaks. Richard has two runners up there today in the shape of WHIP NAE NAE and BRISTOL MISSILE. ‘Whip Nae Nae was very unlucky not to have won at Doncaster on his last start where he appeared to be stuck behind horses for the vast majority of the straight. Once he got out he made up some good ground. The draw is all important at Chester and I believe Bristol Missile has drawn the ideal gate and should be handy away. He didn’t get home the other day at Haydock and he should have enough speed around here, so I have high hopes of a big run.’

Other runners coming from Bath and Chelmsford see the Highclere Thoughbreds filly FABRIC being sent off a short priced second favourite in a three runner race. ‘She needed her first run back and should be much straighter today. This looks like the ideal place to get her back to winning ways and she does show plenty of early toe which is necessary at Bath.’ ZEBULON didn’t run too badly over a bit further at Leicester on his first start and this drop back to six furlongs should suit ideally. He is a good traveller and should have no problems with the ground. MORI YOSHINARI was disappointing on his last start and nothing really came to light. ‘The ground will be plenty quick enough for him but I just want to see him run a race. He was ever so disappointing last time and I need him to step up to the plate again after his successful debut.’

Chelmsford is the final meeting of the day where PEPITA, FLYING NORTH, PLANT POT POWER and GHAYYAR take their chances. The two fillies take to post first, ‘Pepita ran ok at Salisbury but needs to pick it up here. She has been working well and I hope for a much better effort. Flying North is a big filly who has filled out nicely over the winter. She holds some decent form from last year and hopefully if she handles the track she could run a big race on her seasonal debut.’ Plant Pot Power is a big price and has shown an affinity to the all weather last year when winning at Kempton. Ghayyar is having his first run back from his trip to Qatar where he found the ground to firm on a tight turning track. He will be much better suited however to a nice galloping track but this looks a nice place to get him going again.
