De Bruyne Horse Grabs Listed Success

Mon 07 August 2017

The final day of Goodwood and the team ended up with a good second and a very unlucky third in the 7f Handicap. The weeks total came to two winners and three seconds. BATHSHEBA BAY was having his third run and ran another solid race under Ryan Moore who managed to get across from a wide draw and into a prominent position. He was no match for the winner but stuck on well and pulled nicely clear of the third. MEDAHIM was the unlucky horse who didn’t get any room at all until the final half a furlong when it was too late. He would have finished much closer if he had got out.

France was where all the action happened over the weekend. Starting with DE BRUYNE HORSE in the Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles at Vichy who managed to get his head in front with the cheek pieces on for the first time. ‘He got outpaced last time at Maison Laffite and this step up to seven furlongs is what he has been wanting for. He was tough late and the first two pulled well clear of the rest. He is a nice horse and has some good wins left in him this year. I will discuss with the owners in the next week where we head next.’

On Sunday TUPI took his chance in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville where he went off the outsider of the field. He travelled well at the rear of the field and made smooth headway through to challenge in the closing stages and finished a solid third. ‘This was probably the run of his life. He has always threatened to run a big race in this company and he finally seems to be getting the hang of the sprinting game. He has run a blinder and I would say the next plan may be to head to Haydock.’
