Lusail

Six runners for Richard in the opener at Goodwood, including Ouzo and Lusail

GOODWOOD – TUESDAY

1:50 Unibet ‘You’re On’ Chesterfield Cup Handicap
Ouzo (Ryan Moore)

I think a sharp mile and a quarter is exactly what he wants now and his last two runs have been very good indeed. The ground should be ideal and Ryan Moore was keen to ride him so I’m pretty hopeful of a bold show.

2:25 G2 Unibet Vintage Stakes
Lusail (Pat Dobbs
)
He’s a very talented colt who is extremely easy to train because he just gets on with the job, and while he isn’t flashy in his work he is very good on the track which his exactly the way I like it and I’ve got no concerns whatsoever with the step back up to 7 furlongs and he will have no problems with the track because he’s very amenable and has a decent turn of foot. This is obviously a good race but I can’t find a chink in his armour and this looks a race he can win.

Secret Strength (Rossa Ryan)
He’s gradually getting the hang of things now and has run exceptionally well over five furlongs but has always looked like he wants further and I think the Coventry came too quick for him after winning at Musselburgh beforehand, but he’s really getting his act together now so I wouldn’t rule him out entirely. He’s no mug and would have a decent chance at good odds with Unibet.

4:45 Maiden
Monet’s Surprise (Ryan Moore)

He’s got a little bit of temperament but he’s very quick and works well at home. My only concern would be the preliminaries because he can get quite worked up so I don’t want him to boil over but he’s always shown a lot of ability and worked well the other day and is a very nice prospect.

5:20 Unibet Fillies’ Handicap
Anghaam (Jim Crowley)

She’s a lovely filly who will really like it around here and I didn’t think she ran badly at Newmarket last time over 1m2f but the step back down to a mile is a plus and she has every chance of going close in this.

Zwelela (Rossa Ryan)
She’s a very smart filly owned by Al Shaqab who’s been running well in Handicaps and can run up to a mark of 90 on a going day but can also perform like she’s rated only 70 so it’s a case of which filly turns up on the day. But she gets into this off a nice low weight and shouldn’t be entirely discounted.
