Ground Control calling ‘major’ Tom at Newbury

Thu 22 October 2015

Tom Marquand

OUR new champion apprentice Tom Marquand is far too young to be a private, let alone a major, but punters might be singing David Bowie's famous hit if he steers Ground Control to victory in the nursery at Newbury tomorrow.

Assessing Ground Control's chance, Richard Hannon said:"He went up 4lb for finishing seventh last time, but I can have no complaints as in being beaten only five lengths in a valuable sales race at Doncaster he was producing a career-best performance. He had previously won well at Salisbury, so with Tom claiming the 3lb he goes there with a definite shout."

We said farewell to a couple of our stars this week, Ivawood, champion two-year-old last season. heading off for a new career as a stallion at Coolmore Stud in Tipperary, and Gutaifan, winner of the G2 Prix Robert Papin and Flying Childers Stakes, also off to Ireland, where he joins Dark Angel at the Yeomanstown Stud in Co Kildare.
