July Stakes Win For Impressive Mehmas

Fri 08 July 2016

On the opening day of the Darley July Meeting at Newmarket, the son of Acclamation, trained by Richard got back into winning ways in the Group 2 July Stakes over six furlongs. MEHMAS under a lovely ride from Frankie Dettori was always to the fore, showing a good turn of foot to accelerate away from the field.

In winning the July Stakes it gives Richard two wins in the race from only three years training. 'He has such a great attitude and finds it all very easy at home. Obviously we were a little disappointed he got beat at Ascot, but it looks like he ran into a very good horse in Carvaggeio. He was much more at home on the better ground today and really accelerated when Frankie went for him. I think we head straight to the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, where Al Shaqab also sponsor the meeting. I am very happy to have won this race for Sheikh Joaan Al Thani as he puts so much into the game.'

At Newbury the same evening, DUBAI'S SECRET continued winning ways by holding on in the Mile Handicap under Kieran O'Neill. 'He was unlucky at Haydock and hated the ground last time at Newmarket. Back on his preferred going he was game to hold on. He is a progressive handicapper and I hope he can win another couple on the way up.'

Today's runners come from Ascot, Chepstow, Chester and Newmarket. The main meeting of the day is coming from HQ where there are a few chances. MR TYRRELL is a Colt by Helmet making his debut. 'I couldn't be happier with his work at home. He will improve for the run but I could see him running a big race. The two fillies SOMEBODY TO LOVE and NATIONS ALEXANDER are both in the Duchess of Cambridge, but it looks a very competitive renewal.' Ascot sees MONOSHKA having his second run. 'He ran very well at Newbury on debut and if he finds the necessary improvement he should be right there.'
