Marquand Moves Up A Gear

Fri 01 July 2016

TOM MARQUAND came to the yard a little over eighteen months ago and since then has managed to bag an Apprentice Championship Title in his first full year as a jockey. His finest moment so far for us came on OH THIS IS US at Goodwood in a £100k Handicap where he was seen to advantage getting the best out of the horse up to the line. 'He is a very talented rider and I can see a big future for him.'

He lost his claim yesterday at Newbury on Scarlet Dragon for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton and owner Henry Ponsonby 'He has ridden the vast majority of his winners for me and has always had a very level head. He works hard and keeps his weight right.' He has had plenty of exposure, getting himself into the runners up spot in the BBC Young Sport Personality Of The Year. He had a stint riding in Australia for David Hayes in Melbourne where he managed to bag two metropolitan winners in just a short space of time. 'He is a strong rider who I predict will make the transition to a professional with the minimum of fuss.'
