Oh This Is Us Gets Back To Winning Ways

Mon 01 August 2016

The end of another year at Glorious Goodwood and Richard had an impressive winner in MEHMAS winning the Richmond Stakes under Frankie Dettori for Sheikh Joaan. The son of Acclamation was tough in victory and looks certain to be very competitive in the Group One sphere when his time comes around.

There were runners across Britain on Saturday and Richard bagged a nice double up at Newmarket adding to the six winners he had had in the previous two days. The Robin Blunt owned RAJAR was successful in winning the Nursery in good style. ‘Sean gave her a lovely ride and she relaxed nicely on the front end. I have a lot of time for her stallion, Archipenko as I think he produces tough horses. She had a ready turn of foot and put the race to bed in good style. She will now be given the opportunity to get some black type.’ The other winner on the day was the progressive OH THIS IS US who having won three races earlier in the year lost his way in a couple of races since. He sat in behind the main group of runners and was impressive in the way he picked them up. ‘Things didn’t go right for him at Ascot on his last two starts but I am glad he is back to winning ways here. He has been very progressive all year and I can see him continuing that this year. There will be some more nice handicaps for him and then we can look at Listed races. Team Wallop are a great team of owners who are having their first go in racing and appear to have found a horse who has given them a lot of great days.’

Other performances on the day included CARDUCCI, a filly by Poets Voice who improved dramatically to run third in the maiden at Doncaster. The winner of the race was fifth behind another winner of ours, LARCHMONT LAD, really franking the form. ‘Carducci is a filly who will be much better next year but she is doing everything now off raw ability. She will be winning races this year but it’s not until next year that we will see the best of her.’ PEAK PRINCESS, a filly by first season sire Foxwedge ran an impressive second at Newmarket. ‘She ran very well on debut only getting beaten by a more experienced rival. She is a lovely big filly who should win next time.’ DEVIL’S BRIDGE of Middleham Park Racing keeps finding one too good and did once again at Chester yesterday. He will of course be winning very soon, having run so many times in the placings.
