Oh This Is Us Strikes Again

Mon 15 May 2017

The step up to listed company proved no trouble at all for OH THIS IS US as he won in nice style. He sat in behind horses the entire way and only got room with half a furlong to go. He quickened smartly through the gap and got his head in front. That is now his seventh win and he started last year rated 70. ‘He is such a great horse to have around. He needs to hit the front late on but I must admit I was very worried at about the furlong pole. He won well in the end and I am not quite sure how good he is. He keeps stepping up to the mark and improving and so we don’t quite know what level he will get to yet.’

The second runner of the day was GEORGE WILLIAM in the Victoria Cup who was settled in midfield. He moved through with a great surge only to be denied a gap. Once he finally got some day light, he took off but the eventual winner had already got first run. ‘He ran a cracker to finish second and that is an ideal prep run for Royal Ascot. He will head straight there now and I would hope he could run a big race.’

The other winner of the day came from Lingfield in the shape of SHAIYEM owned by Al Shaqab Racing. He is the son of Starspangledbanner and made an encouraging seasonal reappearance at Newmarket before running terribly at Chelmsford last time. ‘For some reason he hates the all-weather. He won’t go and yard on it. He won well here and still looks progressive to me.’

Today’s racing is from Brighton and Windsor. KOOL KOMPANY takes his chance in the Listed event at Windsor tonight. ‘He won well first time up and didn’t handle the track last time. He will be much better suited to this track and I am hopeful of a big run.’
