NEWMARKET

1:10 Nursery
Mr Trick (Ryan Moore)

He’s a bit of a monkey hence he’s been gelded but his latest run was a massive step in the right direction when he finished fourth in a blanket finish at Newbury, albeit when he still showed a little bit of temperament in the closing stages. But he’s got more than enough talent to run a huge race and he put in a decent piece of work on Wednesday morning.

Bella Notte (Pat Dobbs)
I think she found six furlongs on quickish ground last time a little bit too sharp so the softer surface here and a step back up to seven should see her in a much better light and she’s been in good form at home. She’s a tough little filly with a great attitude and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her win a nice race.

2:55 G1 Dewhurst Stakes
Chindit (Pat Dobbs)

There’s just something very special about this horse and the piece of work he put in last week was probably one of the best I’ve seen at Herridge for quite some time and I’m really looking forward to seeing how far he can go. The good thing about him is that he’s a very relaxed colt and takes everything in his stride which makes training him much easier. The ground is slightly unknown but it’s the same for the rest of them and he’s there to give it his very best shot. He oozes class.

Etonian (Tom Marquand)
In an ideal world it would be great to have these colts in separate races but there’s only one Dewhurst and each horse is there on merit and have separate owners so we come into this with a very strong hand. Etonian shouldn’t have gone off the price he did when winning on debut because he’d always been showing us plenty at home, so it certainly wasn’t a surprise, and he followed up with a very easy victory in the Solario Stakes after that. Both of his wins have been on good and good to firm ground but his sire, Olympic Glory, handled the soft very well so I’m not worried on that score and he’ll definitely get further anyway. I’ve not galloped these two against each other because that would be madness but suffice to say his work has been excellent at home and he is an extremely exciting colt for his owner Julie Wood who has been a staunch supporter of the yard for many years – in fact she owned Olympic Glory as a two year old and I’m delighted that she has another good one!

4:50 G3 Darley Stakes
Posted (William Buick)

I’m not convinced she’ll be in love with the ground and we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the weather, but she put up a good performance at Sandown last time which would’ve done her confidence a lot of good and William Buick retains the ride. I’m happy with her at home and with a bit of luck she can run a nice race if she gets the trip.

YORK

2:35 Handicap
Fox Power (Sean Levey)

It’s unfortunate he’s not run as much as we’d like because of small niggly problems, but on his day he’s a very good horse and, being by Dark Angel, I think he’ll like the ground. He’s a big price and probably deserves to be that price but he’s not completely out of it and the handicapper has dropped him a few pounds as well.

CHELMSFORD

4:08
Junvieve (Hollie Doyle)

She’s a sweet filly who shouldn’t still be a maiden because she’s posted some good efforts in defeat and I think she could be quite competitive off this mark from what looks a decent draw in two.

5:55 Fillies’ Handicap
Kodiellen (Luke Catton)

She won under a featherweight at Kempton last time and this is a slight step up in grade but she’s in good form at home and that win will have done her well mentally, although stall 14 isn’t ideal.

7:30 Handicap
Montys Inn (Sam Hitchcott)

He is still a maiden and needs to show a little more before I could seriously consider him win material.

8:30 Handicap
Always Fearless (Sam Hitchcott)

We are going up in trip but I don’t see any reason why he won’t get it and he likes this course. The Handicapper has given him a few pounds back so he’s potentially very well treated and I’m particularly hopeful he can run a massive race.
