The team managed to have a very strong weekend with winners coming from Newbury, Nottingham and Windsor. On the two day Greenham meeting Richard came away with two very impressive winners. The first of those was the Al Shaqab Racing owned QAYSAR who won with plenty in hand on Friday in the three year old handicap. ‘He has always been a horse we have liked and has now got three in a row. He continues to improve and looks like a horse that will be competing in Pattern company very soon. I will see what options there are going forward before making any firm plans.’
The second of those winners was RAYMOND TUSK a son of High Chaparral. Having just his first start he looked very professional in running and quickened away nicely to win. ‘I have taken my time with him but he seems to have finally come to himself. He did that in very impressive style and looks a proper horse. He has worked nicely a few times so that was no surprise.’
The evening of the Saturday came from Nottingham where a double was sprung. The first of those was a two year old having his first start. The son of Dandy Man owned by King Power Racing looked professional in the end. ‘He didn’t love that ground but he won with a bit in hand. He will improve plenty for the experience and so I will look to give him a few weeks and run him in a Novice with a penalty.’
The second was for Coolmore in the shape of DEPARTMENT OF WAR. The three year son of Declaration Of War was having his first start and travelled smoothly through the race before quickening clear in the closing stages. ‘He could not have done that any easier. He looks like he wants this trip and further and should come on plenty for the run.’
TAJAANUS was having her first start back this year and was very good in the Fred Darling. ‘She would have needed that run a little bit but she couldn’t have run any better. She will probably head to Ascot now with a possible other run in between.’
The final winner came at Windsor on Monday night where BOMBSHELL BAY won in unusual circumstances. He was badly hampered on the run in and was awarded the race in the steward’s room.
