Larchmont Launches Into Guineas Picture

Fri 23 September 2016

The son of Footstepsinthesand was the impressive winner of the Gr3 Tattersalls Somerville Stakes for Michael Geoghegan at Newmarket yesterday. LARCHMONT LAD having won his maiden in impressive style at Sandown by three and a quarter lengths and finished a very close third in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster, went to Newmarket with very little tarnish on his reputation. ‘He needed that run at Doncaster, just getting tired in the closing stages and I knew that would bring him on nicely.’ Escobar the unbeaten favourite of Hugo Palmers went off as short as 6/5 but never looked like getting involved leaving Larchmont Lad upfront where he fought tenaciously to seal the deal. ‘He also would have learnt plenty from that Doncaster run and he really showed his grit and determination here. He was going away again at the line and looks like the mile is right up his alley. The plan now is to give him a break over the winter and bring him back for either the Craven or the Greenham. He is a lovely horse who should furnish up nicely after a break. He is a real Guineas horse and that will be the aim for next year.’

He is the fourth foal out of an un-raced sister to Spirit Of Desert who won the Italian Guineas. Out of the same family as Posidonas winner of a Gr1 in Italy and the Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot
