Urban Icon Makes It Two From Two

Wed 13 June 2018

URBAN ICON made it two from two in very impressive fashion in the Bathwick Car & Van Hire Novice Auction Stakes over six furlongs yesterday at Salisbury for owner Michael Prescod.

The son of Cityscape broke well and commanded from the front throughout before forging clear by three and a half lengths under Tom Marquand. Burdened with a heavy penalty he still showed a strong turn of foot to cement himself as an exciting future prospect.

Royal Ascot isn’t on the agenda for URBAN ICON with a tilt at the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket the most likely option.

“He’s a very nice horse and we’ve always liked him, we don’t want to go Ascot with him but we think a lot of him and he’s a horse for the future. We’ll look at something like the Superlative” said Richard after the race.

“He’s won well giving weight away and he’s very laid back. He’s not a horse we need to see how good he’s on the gallops – we’ll let him show it on the track, he’s a proper horse.”

URBAN ICON was purchased for £23,000 at the Ascot Yearling Sale by Peter & Ross Doyle.
