Win Some, Lose Some

Mon 13 March 2017

A nice winner and a frustrating weekend sums up the efforts of our runners from last week. JUAN HORSEPOWER was an impressive winner in a valuable handicap at Lingfield for Middleham Park Racing under the guidance of Kieran O’Neill. He is a horse who has been running well all winter and deserved to get his head in front again. He will be capable of winning a similar event in the next few weeks on the all weather.

The weekend wasn’t quite as friendly as we ended up with three seconds. TAFAAKHOR was beaten only a short head at Wolverhampton and was being pressurised the entire way up the straight by the winner. He should be a horse to break his duck soon as he has been in the top three six times from his eight starts. He has run into some strong opposition in the past including Group 2 winning Blue Point. The frustration continued at Chelmsford where the well backed MUTAWATHEB, who went off favourite, got himself in trouble turning for home, only to make up solid ground when he eventually got out. He is a horse who will be back in the winners enclosure very soon and could be one to have plenty of fun with this year.

We have couple of runners today at Chelmsford in the six furlong maiden. SAWLAAT, a son of Clodovil, is having his first start and should come on plenty for the experience. ‘He has been showing nice ability at home and has always been a horse who needed time. I would hope he could run well this evening. The filly KASSANDRA had experience at the back end of last year and can hopefully put that to good use here.’ The race looks fairly open with the first two in the market having had plenty of opportunities between them.

The season is drawing ever nearer as we wait for Doncaster to arrive at the end of the month. There will be a small but select team lining up for their first runs including a few useful maidens. The two year olds are continuing their education and in the next few weeks we will begin to learn more about them.
