A Bumper bank holiday weekend

Tue 02 April 2024

It was more than a Good Friday for the whole of Team Hannon as the Easter Bank Holiday saw the team notch up 3 winners in a cross card treble.

The first winner of the day came in the form of God Of Thunder at Lingfield in the 1m4f Apprentice Handicap, under yard apprentice Alec Voikhansky. He jumped well and Alec made use of this, switching him to the inside just inside the first furlong. He was sat in a nice prominent position, getting a gentle lead around the bend which led him nicely into the race. He picked up when Alec asked inside the final 2 furlongs, and won well going away. This was a very poignant win the yard and especially Richard Senior, as he was owned by friend and long time owner Ron Gander, who tragically passed away last week.
Lexington Knight also ran a nice race in the same race under Paddy Bradley. He sat nicely in mid field and picked up well when asked with just under half a mile to go. He finished a nice 3rd running on, and will no doubt improve for the run.

Our second win of the day was another strong performance from the ever-consistent Bosh, in a 6 furlong class 3 handicap under Sean Levey, also at Lingfield. He was drawn well in stall 3 which Sean made use of, jumping well, and going forward. He sat just off the leaders and then found a nice gap when the race opened up, just doing enough and getting his head in front.

Last but certainly not least was Talis Evolvere in the All-Weather Championships over a mile at Newcastle. It was a very bold front running performance from yard Apprentice Joe Leavy, taking up the running early on and setting a good strong pace. He was headed just over 4 furlongs out, but Joe stayed calm and waited for the leader to come back to him, rallying in the final furlong and staying on gamely to get his head in front. This was a great win for the yard, and the biggest win of Joe’s career so far, which was a great effort aged just 18. Hopefully they both continue to have a very successful season going forward.
