The Camden Colt

ROYAL ASCOT – TUESDAY

2:30 G1 Queen Anne

Chindit (Pat Dobbs)
He seems better than ever this year and, despite trying to take a chunk out of Modern Games in the Lockinge, which was very uncharacteristic, he ran a fantastic race and I genuinely think he’s a 10lbs better horse this time round. He’s always been a top class colt but his work has been very good of late and I was particularly pleased with his final decent gallop on Tuesday. Obviously it’s a very hot Queen Anne but he deserves to be there and should run well.

Lusail (Ryan Moore)
He will love the ground and has been in very good form at home, including in a piece of work earlier this week. He’s yet to win over a mile, but the trip won’t be a problem because he was second in the St James’ Palace Stakes on the round course last year, and if he can put his best foot forward, he has a solid each way chance.

3:05 G2 Coventry Stakes

Haatem (Pat Dobbs)

He missed the break in the Woodcote, but I liked the way he stayed on to finish third because I don’t think he really liked the track so he’ll be much happier on this course. I’m under no illusions that he needs to step up to win, but he’s a colt with lots of ability and will hopefully put up a decent show.

Packard (David Egan)
I like this colt a lot and think he has a very bright future. As with a lot of ours, he improved from his first run to his second with a decisive win at Lingfield on the All Weather and has come on again since then. He’s a good moving horse by Mehmas, who was second in the Coventry himself, so will love the ground and I expect him to run well.

The Camden Colt (Sean Levey)
He could be the dark horse because he didn’t handle the track at Epsom last time but beat a subsequent winner in a good race at Haydock before that and we like him a lot. His work on Tuesday morning (with Haatem) was excellent and in my opinion he is much, much better than a 40/1 shot.

3:40 G1 King’s Stand Stakes

Happy Romance (Sean Levey)

Her form is right up there with the very best and she’s a top class sprinter in her own right. I was delighted to see her win a Listed race at Bath in April and she wasn’t disgraced in the G2 Temple Stakes last time. She’s a big price but is extremely consistent and is sure to give her running.
