This Weekend's Runners

Sandown Park Racecourse

A reasonably quiet Saturday as we prepare for Royal Ascot next week which is a meeting we all absolutely love because it has everything. Great racing, pomp and pagentry as well as being one of the biggest social events of the year.

We should have approximately 30 runners over the five days and we kick off with Chindit in the G1 Queen Anne. He is a much better horse this year and I’m really hoping that he can get us off the mark nice and early! There are some lovely two-year-olds to run, and it’s just a case of finding the right races for the right horses. The Camden Colt worked particularly well on Tuesday and I think he is definitely worth keeping an eye on along with Packard who has entries in the Windsor Castle and Coventry.

The team from Unibet came down earlier this week to film a full Royal Ascot stable tour, which may, or may not, help with your betting over the week, so have a look at that if you can.

SANDOWN

1:40

The Parent (Pat Dobbs)

I liked the way he stayed on over a mile at Doncaster last time when meeting plenty of traffic problems, so the slight rise in trip will help, as will the stiff track. He’s always been a colt with plenty of ability and has lots in his favour, although a little more cut in the ground would be ideal.

3:25

Classic (Pat Dobbs)

He ran ok on his Handicap debut at Goodwood last time and the drop down in Grade is an obvious plus. I wouldn’t mind stepping him up in trip later on but a stiff seven at Sandown will suit for now and he has decent each way credentials.

BATH

2:30

Yellow Lion (Alec Voikhansky)

He’s still a Maiden but ran very well at Goodwood last time and competes off the same mark here. The drop down in grade and step up in trip are both massive positives and he would have a serious chance in this.

3:00

Dapperling (Sean Levey)

She’s a very speedy filly who has run well in all three starts, including over course and distance last time. This is a little easier than her previous race and it’s hard not to fancy her.

4:10

Oriental Dancer (Sean Levey)

She didn’t get the best of runs at Windsor last time but has put up two decent performances so far this term. A mile is her trip, and this doesn’t look a great race, so we’ll make plenty of use of her.
