A Tough Nut To Crack

Thu 23 August 2018

A great start to the week yesterday with GINGER NUT winning the final race at Yorks Ebor Festival on Day one and WATAN finishing a very good second in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes. Ginger Nut was unlucky not to win at Newmarket the time before having previously won the Super Sprint. She travelled strongly throughout yesterday and hit the front with over a furlong to go. She stuck on really well up to the line. The other runner for the yard finished third having looked very dangerous at one stage. ‘I was delighted with both horses and especially for Ginger Nut. She is so tough and had plenty of challengers in the closing stages. She stuck to her guns and has really got the hang of things now. She deserves to take her chance at some black type now and so we will look at options. The Group 3 at Ayr or the Dick Poole at Salisbury are possible targets. Moyasser ran well for a long way but couldn’t get past the winner in the end. He is a nice colt going forward and we will win some valuable pots with him over the sprint trips.’

The yards other runner Watan finished off really strongly to hold second in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes. He was the last one off the bridle in running and stayed on really well up to the line. ‘He has run very well but I felt the race wasn’t quite run to suit, saying that the winner was very impressive. I like this colt a lot and he could be very good next year. He will probably only have a couple more runs this year.’

Today's action comes from Chepstow, Wolverhampton and York. Action from the second day of the Ebor meeting comes in the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes and the Fillies Handicap. MASARU is currently favourite with HEZ’ANARAB as second pick.
