Barney Battles Bravely In The Eclipse

Mon 10 July 2017

A scintillating race was predicted and that is what we got. A team of horses aged between three and six years old took their place at the start. The clash of the generations was forged and BARNEY ROY did not let the side down at all. James had the son of Excelebration settled in behind midfield in what was a very messy beginning. Horses coming from every angle meant he went to take a hold but he relaxed nicely into the bend. He was poised to strike turning for home and under a strong drive made a run for the front. Ulysses came there under a patient ride and got a neck up on the Godolphin owned colt who fought back tenaciously up to the line to go down by the narrowest of margins. ‘I could not have been happier with our lad. He has run his heart out and it was touch and go as to whether he had got his head back in front. All those doubts about staying the trip were thrown out the window as he galloped strongly through the line. He has come out of his race in great nick and I will be discussing this week with the team our next target. I think ideally we will work back from the Champions Stakes. He is a superstar and will only get better.’

The Friday at Sandown saw EUGINIO come out of a long lay off to win well under Andrea Atzeni. He was help up behind midfield and travelled well into the straight. He made smooth progress through to challenge for the lead and once nicely in the end. ‘He was entitled to get tired after that performance but it was very encouraging that he could get the job done. He will improve no end for the run and he has some valuable handicaps left in him before stepping into Listed and Group Company.’

Today’s racing comes from Windsor with just the two runners heading to post. BEZOS is making his debut in the second and SEE THE SEA is taking her chance in the claimer.
