First UniBet Blog Of The 2025 Season

Fri 11 April 2025

After a good start to the flat turf season at Doncaster with Norman’s Cay winning the Brocklesby, things step up a gear from here on in with a big meetings at Newbury and Newmarket next week. We’ll have plenty of runners coming up and the guys from Unibet came down to the yard earlier in the week, so make sure you check out all our social media platforms to watch the full stable tour with news on Rosallion, Unquestionable, Haatem and some of or two and three year olds.

NEWBURY

2:00 G3 Fred Darling Stakes

British Blue (Pat Dobbs)

She showed a good attitude to win on debut (at Kempton) and has done very well since. That race might not have been the strongest, but she’s been away to gallop and worked well so hopefully she can run a nice race.

3:12 Spring Cup

Son (Pat Dobbs)

He’s only a Maiden winner but has kept pretty good company and run some nice races in between, particularly in the Greenham, here, last year. The drop back to a mile on his first start of the year won’t be a problem, and we gelded over the winter. The handicapper has dropped him a few pounds so he’s not out of it.
Classic (James Doyle)
He’s quite hard to win with, but has plenty of talent, and first time out might be the time to catch him. A mark of 88 is the lowest of his career and he’s also been cut over the winter.

3:45 Maiden

Arctic Grey (Alec Voikhansky)

He’s by Dark Angel, who is a decent sire, and did plenty of work last year, but without running. A mile looks a good starting point and we like him, but he would have to be pretty good to win this first time out.

4:19 Maiden

Schemaya (Sean Levey)

She made her debut last backend at Newmarket, mainly just to get a run into her for education, but she’s come back in looking strong and hopefully can develop into a nice filly. She’s up against it taking on the boys, but receives a nice sex allowance, and hopefully she’ll run a solid race.

4:54 Handicap

Morcar (Alec Voikhansky)

He seems to like genuine fast ground, which he’s likely to get here, and the blinkers help him concentrate. He’s plenty high enough in the handicap but is fresh and well and should go nicely.
