Snow Lantern

Four runners for Richard tomorrow, including Snow Lantern and Chindit in the Sussex Stakes

GOODWOOD – WEDNESDAY

3:00 G3 Molecomb Stakes
Armor (Ryan Moore)

He was very impressive on debut at Doncaster and Ryan got off and was extremely complimentary afterwards so we went to the Windsor Castle confident of a bold show and he didn’t disappoint at all when finishing fifth, beaten just over two lengths. That was an extremely good effort and I think he’s improved a bit since then as well. He’s a very quick horse with a lot of pace and he won’t have any issues with the ground. I seriously think he goes there with an excellent chance and we’ve won this with some very good horses so we know the type to run in it.

3:35 G1 Sussex Stakes
Snow Lantern (Jamie Spencer)

We were looking at both options of the Nassau Stakes, over 10 furlongs against her own sex, or sticking to a mile and taking on Jim Bolger’s horse who has been brilliant all season, but in the end we opted for this primarily because we hoped the ground would be better in the early part of the week and while it is currently heavy, she proved she handled it at Ascot so I’m not too concerned and she’ll definitely take her chance. She receives a bit of weight which is obviously a big help and she’s getting better with every run and settles beautifully in her races, as you saw at Newmarket last time, but they’re like to go a decent clip anyway which will suit and she’s been in great form at home since the Falmouth. I’m under no illusions as to the task she faces against Poetic Flare but she is an extremely high class filly who we’ve always thought so much of and as I told the guys from Unibet when they came two weeks ago, she is our best chance of the week!

Chindit (Pat Dobbs)
To be very honest I’m not sure he will take his chance because he won’t like the ground and we’ll probably save him for another day.

5:20 Handicap
Magical Wish (Pat Dobbs)

He’s run very well around here before so we know he handles the track and slowly but surely he’s coming back down the Handicap again. This is obviously a very competitive race with 20 runners spread right across the track but he’s a horse that handles his racing well and if he gets some luck in running I can certainly see him finishing in the money at decent odds with Unibet but I must admit I do have ground concerns for him too.
