Happy Romance "more than just a flash-in-the-pan two-year-old"

Fri 21 August 2020

HAPPY ROMANCE provided first time owners the McMurray family another wonderful day as she landed the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sales race at York yesterday afternoon. Stepping up in trip to six furlongs for the first time off the back of her Weatherbys Super Sprint win at Newbury last month, she used her turn of foot to good use to quicken clear of the field with a furlong to run and went on to win by a cosy 1 1/4 lengths under Sean Levey.

This has been a lucky race for Richard who has now won it four times and he said “I thought she answered a lot of questions there. She got the trip, I don’t think she loved the ground and struggled early on – I thought she was going to run horribly for a few strides, but in the end she got to the front with relative ease. She is a very good filly and I do think she’s more than just a flash-in-the-pan two-year-old. Physically she’s done very well and she will get seven furlongs. She’s progressively got better and better all year. It’s nice to win this race, which is worth a lot of money, not as much as it normally is but that’s the times we are in. We’re lucky that all these two-year-olds are here racing and the owners are having a ball.”

It really is the stuff dreams are made of for the McMurray family as this is their first taste of racehorse ownership. Similarly it is also Vicky's (who looks after her) first job in racing - what a journey they have been on together! A mention must also go to Molly who rides her out most days and is in charge of her barn. A fantastic result all round.
