Tyrese winning on Always Fearless

Here we go again, another New Year has started, which means another exciting season lies ahead. Our two-year-old horses are getting ready for their new careers on the track, as they are settling into their daily routines on the yard.

We are incredibly lucky to be given such a broad range of horses to train, from our owners’ homebreds, to exciting new purchases from the yearling sales. From proven sires who have done us proud over recent years, to first season sires whose crop we will be watching with great anticipation. We took our time with them all over the winter and will slowly but surely be increasing their training to bring them into full work. They are walking through the stalls every day and are really enjoying going out on the gallops in their groups. It won’t be long until they start cantering upsides in anticipation of their two-year-old debuts. Our riders are learning all about their horses’ personalities and finding their rhythm with each horse.

You’ll also recognise some familiar names as we welcome back a few of our older stars, including Aristia, Chindit, Classic, Ehraz, Happy Romance, Lusail, Magical Sunset, Mojo Star, Powerdress, Shouldvebeenaring, Trillium and Witch Hunter. Some have enjoyed a well-deserved rest elsewhere over the winter, whereas others have been here at home taking it easy during the colder months. We have also been taking full advantage of our water treadmill to build muscle and strengthen up our horses for the upcoming season, with brilliant results to show already.

The new year also brings new apprentice jockeys for us to welcome into the team. You have already had the honour of seeing them out on the racetrack over the winter, they are Alec Voikhansky, Joe Leavy and Tyrese Cameron. Tyrese had his first winner back in December on our very own Always Fearless, which we were incredibly proud of. Alec Voikhansky has been in high demand and incredibly busy over the winter with many a win under his belt already. And last but not least, Joe Leavy, who had his first ride as an apprentice for us a couple of weeks ago, we look forward to seeing what this year has in stall for him.

2023 will have a lot to offer and we cannot wait to showcase our talent, new and old, for you all, so keep an eye on what’s to come.
