Our Two-Year-Olds Hit The Grass

Wed 15 February 2023

The string heading out at Everleigh this morning

The sun is shining and the weather is finally warming up for us over here in Wiltshire. This has allowed us to go full steam ahead this week with no interruptions. Our gallops are looking remarkable and have held up brilliantly despite the recent frost.

The two-year-olds are especially excited about this change in the weather, as it has meant that we have been able to crank their training up a notch. They’re taking to their new routines amazingly well and have seamlessly transitioned to riding upsides each other. This is an incredibly important step for them to master to move forwards in their training. It is their first glimpse at life in the fast lane, cantering alongside each other, as though they were in a race.

Our two-year-olds are constantly learning and adjusting to new situations. Their big change this week has been going out on the grass for the first time. They have been doing their initial canter on our all-weather gallop and then moving over onto the grass to canter between the markers. The change in surface requires the two-year-olds to think, sharpen up and adjust their footing accordingly. It is an exciting transformation to witness and be a part of.

We’re starting to see each horse’s potential come through and will soon be able to look for suitable races for each of them.

We are following their progress with great anticipation and will of course be keeping you all up to date along the way.
