ROYAL ASCOT – WEDNESDAY
2:30 G2 Queen Mary Stakes
Xanthe (Pat Dobbs)
She’s a very tough little filly with a lot of speed who couldn’t have done any more than win as she did on her debut, against the colts, over course and distance on Trials Day. How strong that race was, I’m not too sure, but she and the second pulled well clear of the third so you couldn’t knock the performance. This is obviously a big step up, but she’ll like the ground and has a decent each way chance.
5:05 Royal Hunt Cup
Talis Evolvere (Joe Leavy)
He is fast becoming a superstar and would have to be one of the most consistent in our yard. I was delighted with his run at Newbury last time, behind the reopposing Sonny Liston, and Joe takes 5lbs off which is worth it’s weight in gold, particularly in races like this. A fast run mile is what he wants and he’s versatile ground-wise.
6:15 Listed Windsor Castle Stakes
Hawaiian (Sean Levey)
He absolutely hated the soft going in the National Stakes at Sandown and could never operate on the ground so I’m more than happy to draw a line through it. He’s a little terrier of a colt and has been moving really well and working great on the polytrack at home. The fast ground will obviously help his chance and I can see him bouncing back and running well in a race like this.
