Doncaster Racecourse
I’m delighted to be teaming up with Unibet for another flat season and hopefully we’ll have plenty of winners between us! The horses are all in good shape, although some are still to come in their coats, because the weather has been so up and down, but it won’t be long before we really hit springtime when the temperatures should warm up and we can kick on.
We have three runners at Doncaster for the traditional curtain raiser to the turf season and my thoughts on their chances are below.
DONCASTER
3:00 Cammidge Trophy
Ehraz (Jim Crowley)
He’s always been a very good horse but has had several little issues and I don’t think we’ve really seen what we know he’s capable of, but he came back in nice and early and has done plenty of work so is pretty straight; he’s also been gelded over the winter. He won on softish ground at Newmarket last back end so will handle conditions and I’m hopeful we could have lots of fun with him this year. He would be my best chance of the day.
3:35 Lincoln Handicap
Witch Hunter (Sean Levey)
He’s a consistent lad who was a shade unlucky not to win at Lingfield last time when just getting collared on the line, but the cheek pieces seem to keep his eye on the job and he comes here fit having been kept busy through the winter. The step up in trip is an unknown but I think he’ll get it and a big Handicap like this will help him travel and he has a solid each way shout.
4:10 Doncaster Mile
Tacarib Bay (Sean Levey)
This time last year we thought he was our Guineas horse but things unfortunately didn’t go as we hoped, however he still had a productive season, winning a valuable Handicap at Haydock as well as some decent placed efforts. He loves soft ground, stays a mile and had a warm up at Wolverhampton the other day which will have sharpened him up, although he is still slightly burly, but I wouldn’t be ruling him out under optimum conditions.
